June, 2008

Five people attended a social dinner of Indian food at Namaste Restaurant on Banksville Rd.

May, 2008

Instead of a meeting, we devoted the time to designing a survey to try to find out why people are not either the meetings or the socials and what we need to do to bring them back. Coming soon to an email box near you. Watch for it and let's hear you thoughts.

April, 2008

Three people attended a pizza lunch in town and then the Pittsburgh Auto Show at the D. L. Lawrence Convention Center.

March, 2008

Due to a low registration turnout, those registered (4) retreated to Chez Andy Ai for an evening of revelry, eating pizza, drinking beer and playing PS3 games, viewed on a 60" flat panel TV.

February, 2008

The February social meeting, originally scheduled for Sushi Tomo, was first postponed by a week and then cancelled due to (pick one): bad weather, location, apathy, dislike of sushi.

January, 2008

The January meeting was on where to find free video content on the Internet. We had presentations by John Vukovic and Andy Ai on their favorite free sites and how to best use them. Earl Sarain also gave us a presentation on some subscription (not free) sites that he uses. Selected sites follow:

http://www.veoh.com
-- Free to use, more features and options if you register.
-- Site also offers a downloadable player for better enjoyment.
    -- Usually commercial free
http://www.hulu.com
    -- Free but requires registration.
-- In beta now so you may need to wait.
-- Run by studios and content owners themselves.   All legit.
http://www.joost.com
-- Free but requires registration and download of their player software.
-- Very short commercials (15 seconds) and back to show.

December, 2007

The December meeting was a social event at the Rivers Club in One Oxford Center, Downtown Pittsburgh. Our host and resident Rivers Club member was Andy Ai.

November, 2007

For the November meeting we had presentations by Harvey Schoenman and John Williams on the current state of voice recognition and navigation.

Harvey presented the native capabilities in Windows Vista. These include voice recognition for dictation and navigation within any application and windows itself. The presentation was "challenged" due to the low quality of Harvey's microphone with the inherent noise level in a large room.

John had a much better (noise cancelling) headset microphone and was able to superbly demonstrate the impressive qualities of Dragon Naturally Speaking. While Dragon does not have the voice navigation features that Vista does, it's dictation features are unarguably much superior.

We were also able to recognize our own Andy Ai as one of Pittsburgh's "40 Under 40." an award he received earlier in the evening.

November was also our 7th anniversary and we celebrated with a birthday cake.

October, 2007

The October social meeting, originally scheduled for the Atria's Restaurant in Fox Chapel, was cancelled due to (pick one): rock slides on Rt 28N, too far, rock slides on Rt 28N, don't like Atria's, or rock slides on Rt 28N.

September, 2007

For the September meeting we had presentations by Andy Ai and Rob Copeland on broadcast and streaming video on mobile devices.
